What is that white stuff we’re always putting on our hands? Chalk of course!

A guide to hand chalk has just been posted in the about section.
This is the same stuff as climbers chalk, gymnastics chalk, etc. It is a necessary component for the traveling rings. Not using chalk is just insanity. Do yourself a favor and invest about $2 dollars in a block of chalk before attempting to do the rings.
I recommend ordering chalk in bulk from Frank Endo in California.
